Who we work with

Commercial sector

Our work in the commercial sector focuses on short learning programmes for staff teams to develop their “soft skills” such as confidence building, team working and communication skills as well as courses to improve literacy and numeracy skills.

All courses are contextualised for the sector we are working with and are bespoked to meet both employer and employee needs. We pride ourselves on the flexibility of our programmes and can adapt individual sessions from two hours to whole day delivery.

Recent clients include local authorities and employers within residential care homes, manufacturing and insurance sectors. Find out more about how our programmes have helped employers and employees.

Case Study: Early Years Centre Managers – Hampshire County Council

As part of the highly successful Skills for Life At Work project, MBL worked with Hampshire County Council to develop a course for a team of staff who needed to gain confidence and skills in using maths.

The course focussed on a team of staff who wanted to take the professional qualifications required for managers and heads of Early Years Centres; a GCSE C grade is a minimum requirement for entry to this programme. Staff who had attempted GCSE courses previously had not successfully completed, due to the pace of the course and their low personal confidence levels.

We developed a 5 week (15 hour) programme with the main focus on building confidence. Lots of group work, discussion and activity based learning was used to build understanding and with understanding came confidence. We avoided working through “pages of sums” and related maths to their work context wherever we could.

Hampshire County Council benefited from more confident staff who valued the training, which gave them the opportunity to progress onto and complete their GCSE programme.
